Custom Solar Screens for Houston Windows

Houston sun is hard on rooms that face south and west. A solar screen sits outside the glass and cuts the sun before it reaches the window. TruShine solar screens use Solar 80 mesh on a heavy-duty frame, built in Houston to your measurements.

Exterior sun control

What Solar 80 does

Solar 80 mesh is designed to reduce strong solar heat and glare before sunlight reaches the glass. It is darker and denser than insect screen, so it also gives daytime privacy from the street while you can still see out. It keeps insects out like a regular screen.

A stronger frame

What is included

Every Solar 80 screen is built on a 5/16 × 1 inch heavy-duty frame because solar mesh is heavier than standard screen. Choose the frame color and any mounting hardware your window needs.

Which windows to start with

West- and south-facing windows get the most direct sun. Many homeowners start there and add the rest later. Each window is its own line in the order, so you can do a few at a time.

Plan by elevation

How Houston sun changes around the house

A home rarely needs the same treatment on every side. West-facing windows usually receive the longest stretch of hot afternoon sun, while south-facing glass can stay bright for much of the day. East-facing rooms may need help with morning glare, but north-facing windows often benefit less from a dense exterior screen.

Walk around the house at the times when glare is worst. Note which rooms become uncomfortable, where furniture or flooring receives direct light, and which windows already stay shaded by trees, porches or neighboring structures. That short survey helps you start with the openings that can make the most noticeable difference.

It is perfectly reasonable to order a few solar screens first. Because each screen is entered as its own line, you can start with a bedroom, home office or living room and add more after seeing how the darker mesh looks from inside and outside.

Appearance and privacy

What to expect from a darker exterior screen

Solar mesh looks darker than standard insect screen because more material crosses the opening. During the day, that density reduces the view into the home from the street while preserving a view outward. The effect changes after sunset when indoor lights are on, so a solar screen should not be treated as a security or nighttime privacy product.

The darker surface can also change the exterior appearance of a group of windows. For the cleanest look, use a consistent frame color and mesh on windows that sit together on the same wall. If an HOA controls exterior colors, confirm its rules before placing a custom order.

Inside the room, expect less brightness and glare. People who want maximum airflow and the lightest possible view may prefer standard insect mesh on shaded windows and reserve solar mesh for the strongest exposures.

Measure and match

Solar screens still depend on an exact fit

The solar mesh may be the most visible option, but the fit still comes from the finished frame measurements and mounting method. Measure an existing screen from outside edge to outside edge, width first and height second, to the nearest 1/16 inch. Record the frame thickness, color, springs, tabs and clips at the same time.

If the window has no screen to copy, do not estimate from the glass. Take clear photos of the exterior opening and track, include a tape measure for scale, and text the photos to (832) 713-3545. TruShine can help identify what must be confirmed before you order.

A heavy-duty frame supports the denser mesh, but it must still fit the window track. Read the measuring guide and the hardware guide before checkout.

Care after pickup

Keep solar mesh clean without stretching it

Dust, pollen and sprinkler residue can collect on any exterior screen. Remove loose debris with a soft brush or gentle vacuum attachment, then rinse with low pressure. If washing is needed, use mild soap, a soft cloth or sponge and plenty of clean water. Support the frame while moving it so the corners are not twisted.

Avoid pressure washing the mesh, scraping it with a stiff brush or leaning the screen where the frame can bow. Check the retaining hardware when reinstalling. The screen should sit securely without being forced into the track.

Use the right product on each opening

When standard insect mesh may be the better choice

Solar mesh is not automatically the best choice for every window. A shaded north-facing room may benefit more from the brighter view and airflow of standard charcoal fiberglass. Windows used mainly for ventilation may also feel better with a more open weave.

Reserve solar mesh for a clear sun or glare problem, then keep standard insect mesh where light and air are the priorities. Mixing mesh by elevation is common, but keep adjacent windows consistent when exterior appearance matters. TruShine can help you compare the trade-offs before ordering.
